The round table on “Digital Rights: Current Challenges and Possible Responses” took place online on April 29, 2020.
This discussion was organized on the initiative of Anna Kolesnyk, Chair of the Human Rights Committee, and Lyudmyla Opryshko, Chair of the Media and Advertising Law Committee.
During the round table, participants analyzed the issues related to building cooperation between government and civil society in combating misinformation, realization of fundamental human rights and freedoms in the online environment, especially during the coronavirus pandemic, real-time access to justice, the possibility of using digital technologies to exercise suffrage, the need to balance the right to health care and the right to privacy in the implementation of certain anti-epidemic measures. The event also reviewed the current state of countering the dissemination of malicious information during the pandemic, including relevant case law on the dissemination of inaccurate information in the form of rumors, as well as legislative initiatives in the field of digital rights and the blocking of websites by courts.
