Defending the rights of lawyers has become a life credo of lawyer Anna Kolesnik. Back in 2013, she became a member of the Committee for the Protection of Lawyers ‘Rights and Guarantees of Advocacy of the Kyiv Region Bar Council, later became a member of the Committee for the Protection of Lawyers’ Rights and Guarantees of Advocacy of the National Bar Association of Ukraine.
Currently, chairing the Human Rights Committee of the National Bar Association of Ukraine, Hanna Kolesnyk takes an active part in activities aimed at protecting the rights of lawyers.
On July 21, 2020, she took part in the Joint Meeting of the Chairmen of the NAAU Committees on Violations of the Rights of Lawyers Providing Professional Legal Assistance in Anti-Corruption Proceedings.
So Anna Chariot at the meeting emphasized:
“Violations of lawyers’ rights primarily affect their clients, as the need to defend their rights distracts lawyers from working for their clients, and such barriers are created artificially by those who are dissatisfied with the effective work of lawyers.
“Some may think that we have gathered here only to protect the rights of lawyers. But this is not the case. We have gathered here for another purpose – to protect our clients, to protect their right to legal aid. When we are not allowed to visit our clients and do not comply with the relevant decisions, this is a violation of the right to legal aid. The basic, in my opinion, constitutional right, along with the right to life, “- said Kolesnyk.
